The Unicorn / Danaé Brissonet
Rue Jules Hoyois, 45 - 7022 Hyon

Inspired by the coat of arms of the town of Hyon, Danaé Brissonet chose the unicorn as the mural's central icon for its powerful embodiment of purification and healing. In the work, the unicorn climaxes at the centre of an intriguing and disquieting environment to heal the person riding her. She will purify his heart by giving him back his vision of colours, told through a rainbow that will emerge from the rider's flower-head. In these strange times of movement and transformation, when we need to adapt and allow ourselves to change, the unicorn is the ideal archetype to tell the story of this singularity and offer hope for healing.
The artist:
Danaé Brissonnet is an international artist from Quebec, Canada specializing in public murals, illustration, mask making and puppetry. Her most recent body of colourful and fantastical folk-inspired work is scattered from Mexico and Puerto Rico to Morocco, India and Spain.
Creating imagined worlds for the viewer, his work invites further reflection on the power of symbolism, myth and metaphor. Brissonnet's art strengthens the links between his work, himself and the audience he engages with. Most importantly, her process involves engaging with communities where she can tell stories of people, their lands and their culture. Wherever Brissonnet creates, there is likely to be a workshop, where she can share her experience.
She looks for places where art is not accessible and finds it important to work with children to inspire them to paint their stories with the materials they have. Brissonnet's professional work is what enables her to travel to these conflict zones and rural communities. Leaving a colourful trace, her art has a sense of accessibility as she visually translates her story and the stories of others. Brissonnet's work exists as an imprint of change and inspiration for the places she believes need it most."
