Ivre d'histoires / Olivier Sonck
Murs de la prison - 7000 Mons

Olivier Sonck is a Belgian artist with links to Mons through his studies at Arts2. Since his training, he has worked in the visual arts through engraving and screen-printing, and teaches at various schools. His passion in recent years? Words. ‘I'm interested in their meaning, the way they're mispronounced and the result when they're heard by distracted ears. I turn them into objects, often printed, marked on cold materials like metal, inert materials like lead, shiny materials like copper, but also warmer and (sometimes) more comforting materials like wood’.
For this project, he carried out a series of workshops on childhood memories in two stages: first with twenty prisoners (ten men and ten women) and then with the prison's neighbours (residents, students, workers, etc.). The result? A literary fresco full of authenticity and poetry, painted on the outside wall of the prison. It will evolve according to the weather.
