Working with the neighbours, BlancBec has breathed new life into this wall, where imaginary animals and plants live side by side.
After spending ten years within the graffiti movement under the pseudonym VEKS, in early 2000 Blancbec turned his attention to new approaches. His first canvases were furnished with geometric writings inspired by graffiti. In Barcelona in 2002, he discovered the work of hand-painted and pasted posters, a revelation. The technique appealed to him because it allowed him to combine studio work with urban activity. He adopted it! His initial geometric writings were gradually transformed into characters. Then came the bird. For the time being, the canvases were put aside to make way for paper. In early 2003, the first posters of the bird appeared on city walls. They were the first of their kind in Brussels. The bird and the artist became known as ‘Blancbec’, chosen for the artist's inexperience and the certainty of his bird. His distinctive geometric construction and vivid range of colours create a style that is instantly recognisable. Since then, bold protagonists have entered his world, which he continues to represent using new media and techniques. Blancbec is regularly exhibited, and his work is always a feature of the urban landscape.
