Mesvin's find / Iconosaïk by Refreshink
Rue Brunehaut, 33 - 7022 Mesvin

efreshink (Giovanni Magnoli) was born in Arona (Novara) in 1971. A graduate of the School of Graphic Design, he initially worked as a screen printer, specialising in this field. He then embarked on the adventure of freelancing. His real creative impetus came in the early 1990s, when he got close to writing and started doing graffiti. Over the years, Refreshink has developed a distinctive style, challenging and going beyond the classic stylistic characteristics of graffiti (letters, characters, puppets) in search of more complex techniques and languages. His experience of abandoned sites has led him to paint - and reinterpret - subjects inspired by the natural world.
His first ‘cockerel’ dates from 2009, and is recognisable among the other striking animals painted in bright colours and drips, a dense material to which the artist juxtaposes formal elements such as geometric figures and inscriptions. Proud looks, expressions that are sometimes aggressive but never resigned, and monumental formats seem to make us reflect on our ‘being human’. Refreshink's works - on wall, canvas or other media - capture and depict the primal energy of nature: explosions of matter and open lines contrast with geometries and closed forms, creating an inviting atmosphere, an inviting and dynamic dialectic play within the painted surface.
2022 saw the birth of Iconosaik, a project dedicated to the pictorial recovery of the ancient mosaic technique, revised and reinterpreted in a pop tone.
