Made in Jemappes / Noir Artist

Passage du Centre, Grand'rue - 7000 Mons

made_in_jemappesVille de Mons_Oswald Tlr.

The theme is Jemappes and its symbols (the cockerel, the park, the station, etc.) but also the industrial past (porcelain, rolling mills, coal mining) and the idea is to remind the people of Jemappes that they have a lot to be proud of.

"My aim is to ensure that the people of Jemappes can make the fresco their own, as suggested by the phrase “Made in Jemappes”. To achieve this, a number of highly symbolic elements have been brought to the fore:

- The famous ‘Coq’ (rooster), which can be seen above the ‘Monument au coq’ (rooster monument).

- Earthenware (represented by a large vase) and an old scene of rolling mills, typical of the region.

- The ‘Jemappes Park Bridge’, represented by a few geometric lines.

The artist's black style is also highly symbolic, recalling the coal-mining era that left its physical and psychological mark on the region.

Finally, gold, which is used a lot in the artist's latest creations, brings a touch of cheerful colour to this painting."
