Andrea Buglisi has been working as an artist since 2000, devoting himself mainly to painting, with a particular focus on contamination.
He describes his research as follows:
‘A kind of visual trap. I tend to attract the viewer with chromatically and compositionally seductive images that wink at design and advertising. On a deeper level, however, there's something disturbing that, through the privileged medium of irony, conveys a critical message about society and its collective conventions and neuroses’.
The wall proposed to Andrea is in the Messines district, and here is his note of intent: ‘ The work is inspired by the tradition of the “Gayoles”, reinterpreted through my personal artistic language. I have composed this work in such a way as to create the illusion that the architectural building becomes a kind of birdcage, similar in shape to those that were sold on the market to support families during periods of unemployment. However, my cage is different; the bars are wide and spaced out, and the birds inside are free. Indeed, they seem to play happily in their world, which is a mixture of nature, tradition and modernity.
