Frameries
The municipality of Frameries includes the villages of Eugies, La Bouverie, Noirchain, and Sars-la-Bruyère within its territory.
Frameries, rich in history and nature, has managed to preserve its heritage while evolving.
Once the fief of Walbert, father of Sainte Waudru, the municipality, marked by coal mining since the 13th century, now sees its slag heaps transformed into havens for a diverse fauna and flora. The industrial era has left its traces, such as Sparkoh!, a former coal mine, and the Fabrique de Théâtre, now converted into a cultural space.
Between historical remnants and the Hauts-Pays Nature Park, Frameries is a place for discovery on foot or by bike. The municipality comes alive throughout the year with popular events, such as "Frameries fête sa patronne" or the Eugies flea market. It was also a key site during World War I, with the battle of August 24, 1914. Frameries also hosts major sporting events, like the Happy New Year Trophy, which attracts over 1,000 runners each year.

Discover Art Deco in Frameries!
An unexpected architectural heritage at the heart of the former mining city.
Frameries, rich in its industrial past, hides treasures of Art Deco architecture. This style, with its geometric lines and refined ornaments, can be admired along the streets of des Alliés and de France, where beautiful façades tell the story of an elegant era. Colorful dormer windows, bold volumes, and decorative details capture the eye. End your walk at the Grand-Place, where the imposing town hall, though not Art Deco, illustrates the architectural eclecticism of the municipality. A fascinating stroll between history and elegance.

A city of traditions, culture, and festivals
Frameries, rich in its historical past, venerates its patron saints, Sainte Waudru and Sainte Aldegonde, through iconic festivities. Every Ascension Thursday, the town honors Sainte Waudru with a mass and a friendly procession. The same devotion is found in Noirchain, where Sainte Aldegonde, Waudru's sister, is celebrated during the annual flea market.
But in Frameries, history does not stop at the saints: the municipality is also a breeding ground for talent, from Paul Hankar to Joseph Dufrane. The city anthem, "Enn c’est nie co Frameries," created by Dufrane, symbolizes this love for local culture. Frameries is also a vibrant town, with events like the flower market, the Eugies flea market, and popular races, reflecting the friendliness and community spirit of its residents.
