A Rich and Diverse Ecosystem

South of the Scientific Adventure Park (SPARKOH!), the Terril du Crachet stands in a semi-rural setting. Much of its surface is covered by pioneering woodland, while preserving beautiful open areas of grassy wasteland and ponds. This site hosts exceptional flora, including remarkable species such as:

  • The common twayblade (Listera ovata)
  • The tuberous pea (Lathyrus tuberosus)
  • The nodding thistle (Carduus nutans)

The proximity to urban areas also encourages the presence of exotic plants, further enriching the site’s botanical diversity.

Remarkable Fauna

The Terril du Crachet is also a haven for local wildlife, especially herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles). Eight species of amphibians, including the rare natterjack toad (Bufo calamita), and two species of reptiles have been recorded here. This natural heritage makes it a prime observation site for biodiversity enthusiasts.

Discovery Trails

A marked trail takes you to the top of the terril, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. The starting point is at SPARKOH!, where you can find all the information you need to fully enjoy the walk.
