Cuesmes, a small municipality within the Mons region, is a must-visit for all fans and specialists of Van Gogh’s work. It was during his stay in the Borinage that the preacher became an artist.

The area and its surrounding landscapes are imbued with an atmosphere rich in both rural and working-class references, which the painter would carry with him throughout his life’s work.

A place of remembrance brought to life by a new scenography. The tour begins as an initiation from the entrance in the garden, continuing into a renovated pavilion. The visit then takes you through the small, modernized house, allowing the spirit of its illustrious inhabitant to emerge.

An audio installation concludes the tour by situating the artist and his work within the historical context of the Borinage.

Simple, quiet and good for a little culture and history class. 5€ per person. I recommend as an activity if you are close by

A small, but important site in the development of the renowned painter. If you're in the area and have an interest in art history, then it's worth a visit. If not, it is unlikely to be worth your time. A video does play in the house for 50 mins, which is well done but a few mins is more than sufficient. Information is in english and WC is available, small parking area by the sites and all at ground level.
