About the activity

Among the soldiers who fell in combat are Private John Parr and Private George Ellison, respectively the first and the last British soldiers to be killed during the First World War. Mons also holds a major place in British military history: it was here that Lieutenant Maurice Dease V.C. and Private Sidney Godley received the first two Victoria Crosses awarded during the conflict.

These historical events explain the international renown of the Battle of Mons, now at the heart of remembrance tourism in Belgium. We offer an authentic memorial trail through the historic sites and places of remembrance in the Mons region, inviting discovery and reflection.
