A haven of peace, the Saint-Symphorien Military Cemetery is a place rich in symbolism. The graves of soldiers from the 1914-1918 war stand side by side, regardless of nationality. All rest here for eternity in soil dedicated to remembrance, memory, and ultimately, peace. With a guide, you will discover this UNESCO site and the history of soldiers lost during the First World War.

Lieu rempli d'émotions. Magnifiquement entretenu.
This cemetery was opened by the Germans after the Battle of Mons. It contains the burials of 227 British soldiers and 2 Canadians who were killed in 1918. The Germans, who raised the granite monument to commemorate the fallen of both armies, have 284 of their burials in the cemetery. St Symphorien military cemetery is a unique and highly symbolic place: it is here that the first and the last British Empire soldiers killed in the First World War are buried. It also contains roughly the same number of British and German graves.
Super schön! Gepflegter, kleiner deutscher Ehrenfriedhof!
Très belle visite comme toujours dans ce cimetière qui rend hommage aussi bien aux soldats allemands qu’aux soldats de l’Empire britannique ( World War I )
