Ville de Mons_Oswald Tlr.Grand Mons 50th Anniversary Mural
To mark the 50th anniversary of the merger of the municipalities, a monumental mural was created to celebrate the history, identity and iconic landmarks of Greater Mons.
Designed by artist Godmess, this vibrant work transforms a passageway into a true covered open-air gallery. Each former municipality is represented through iconic elements of the area: from the Hyon waterfall and Nimy ceramics to the Ghlin racecourse, SHAPE in Maisières, the Nouvelles carnival, the Jemappes Cavalcade, Van Gogh in Cuesmes, Havré Castle and the ponds of Saint-Denis.
The mural brings together a whole series of symbols in a single artwork, telling the story of the richness and diversity of Greater Mons. It is a true tribute to the area and its heritage, while adding a new splash of colour to the urban landscape.
Created in a tunnel belonging to the Walloon Region, this 2,500 m² artwork is the largest urban art mural in Belgium.
