Gilles ViartIn Hyon, a new mural by artist Arno Defosse pays tribute to the Capitaines Saint-Fiacre, a former folkloric society from Hyon. The artwork celebrates a tradition deeply rooted in the history and identity of the village.
Long known as the “vegetable garden of Mons”, Hyon was renowned for its many market gardens, which supplied the city with fresh produce. The tradition of the Capitaines Saint-Fiacre is a reminder of this rich agricultural and folkloric heritage.
Located on the wall of the Post Office building, the mural introduces both local residents and visitors to this part of Hyon’s heritage.
The artwork is part of a project that aims to highlight, through murals created in the villages of Greater Mons, the heritage, history and folklore that contribute to their identity.
