When Mons shines beyond borders

With a constant drive to energise its territory and strengthen ties with its European neighbours, the Tourism House of the Mons Region actively participates in several Interreg projects. These cross-border cooperation programmes, supported by the European Union, foster joint initiatives between geographically close regions separated by a border. Through these collaborations, Mons is involved in concrete actions in tourism, culture, sustainable development, and innovation. Henriette: A new hiking experience in Hainaut

Launched in June 2024, the HENRIETTE project aims to create a vast cross-border hiking network around Mons and the Hainaut region by 2028.

Thanks to a simple and intuitive waymarking system inspired by the cycling node network, everyone will be able to create their own custom walks, explore themed routes, and discover natural and heritage-rich landscapes. A great way to (re)discover the region differently — on foot and in total freedom.

Destination Terrils: nature, culture and adventure at the top

With the cross-border Destination Terrils project, explore the slag heaps of the French-Walloon mining basin like never before: with marked trails, artworks, biodiversity, and activities for the whole family.

Between Charleroi, Mons, and Béthune, the slag heaps of the mining basin are gradually transforming into open-air discovery spaces. The Destination Terrils project aims to transform this industrial heritage into a vibrant place of life by 2028: node-to-node hiking network, art installations, treasure hunts, cultural events, and spots for outdoor activities. A wonderful way to combine nature, history, and the joy of exploration.

VideoMap

The VideoMap project turns videomapping into an innovative tool to bring façades to life, reveal heritage, and create new experiences to be enjoyed between Mons and its cross-border neighbours.

With VideoMap, technology becomes a true cultural and tourist lever. This cross-border project uses videomapping to reveal the history of places in a spectacular and immersive way, while supporting the local creative economy. Artist residencies, workshops, mapping trails, and public events: the initiative boosts the region’s attractiveness, trains tomorrow’s talents, and invites everyone to experience urban spaces in a new light.
